1) Fleas and ticks drink the blood of animals.  In doing so, they have the potential to spread many viral and bacterial diseases.

2) About 75% of all emerging diseases are zoonotic.   This means that they can be spread between people and animals.

3) Serious tick borne diseases include Lyme Disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis, and Tularemia.

4) Fleas can spread Tularemia, Bubonic Plague, Murine Typhus, and Cat Scratch Disease.

5) Fortunately, none of these diseases are very common.   Several are deadly, but prompt medical attention early can lead to a successful treatment.

6) The other good news is that your veterinarian has a variety of products that can help keep fleas and ticks from using your pet as a food source!

7) These insecticides are safe, effective, and best of all, won’t harm your family or your pets.

8) Avoid buying over-the-counter pesticides.   Many use older, more toxic ingredients that can be deadly to your pet.

9) Your veterinarian and staff will be happy to answer any questions you might have about the control of fleas and ticks on your pet and in the environment.
